Obsidian Shiraz 2008

Technical Details:

The Wine

Obsidian is hand crafted wine — we grow the grapes specifically, hand select the ultimate sections in the vineyard, vinify separately and then only the best barrels make the cut, ensuring only 1% of our total shiraz production makes the Obsidian grade. Winemaker Mike Brown's philosophy is simple — minimal intervention across all stages of the winemaking process.

Colour
Mulberry with black hue
Nose
Smoky bacon, liquorice, bitter chocolate, plums, liquor coffee, chorizo. currants, dried plums, crushed almonds.
Palate
A multi layered generous and hugely complex wine. The dark chocolate and red berries flow richly onto the palate combining with complex savoury oak that paves the way for a seamless finish. The highlight of this wine is the persistence - which we attribute to the balance of flavour, acid and tannin. This wine will reward those with patience and I am thinking 2018 would be a good start date.
Food
Parmesan Cheese or Medium rare fillet steak
Suggested recipe

Fillet of venison with red wine and wild mushrooms

Cellaring
10+ years
Vintage Notes

The 2008 vintage continues a remarkable decade of harvests in Mclaren Vale, joining 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006. An almost perfect growing season paved the way for a vintage where all the strongest parcels of fruit were picked in ideal conditions.
