- The Wine
Truckloads of pure fruit flavours picked early to retain natural acid with oak in the background. Clean fresh and zesty!!
- Pale straw with a green hue, bright.
- Lychee, lemons and limes, pear drops, wheatgerm and wholegrains.
- A deliciously zesty and punchy wine! Nashi pears, honeydew melon, citrus fruits and fresh barley grains (from the oak) are all evident in the front to mid palate. Medium weight with excellent depth, flavour and background oak. What I love about this wine is the seamless framework of fruit and acid.
- Pan fried chicken with mango salsa, summer salads.
- Drink now – 8 years.
- Vintage Notes
The 2009 growing season presented us with classic Mediterranean conditions. In the lead up to harvest we experienced good winter and spring rains with warm days and cool nights. We commenced picking early in February – in line with our mission to make lower alcohol wines and had finished our entire white production by the 20th February. This has resulted in wines showing great natural balance. Over the past 9 vintages we have been working towards a style of chardonnay that goes away from the traditional “wood loaded” style.
Made from pristine flavour ripe bunches, gently pressed and fermented at cool temperatures, a large component of this wine remains un-oaked for freshness. The balance (30%) is fermented in new French oak barriques to add complexity and mouthfeel.
