Paul and Jill Buttery

Directors of Golf

We entered the wine business by buying a school tuck shop with a wine license in the western suburbs of Adelaide in 1966. Our claim to fame in those days was making sandwiches for kids and selling port and sherry to the local imbibers. We then spent 3 years in court removing the license to a new shopping centre in an expanding southern suburb and consequently obtained a full license to sell wine, spirits and beer.

After selling the retail liquor store in 1980, we purchased our first vineyard in McLaren Vale and over the next 15 years expanded our holdings to what we have today. With the addition of our children and their spouses into the business we somehow got talked into releasing our own label in 1998. They have collectively built the business to where we are today and refer to me now as director of golf, although I keep a watchful eye on the purse strings in the hope that one day I might see a dividend!
