Paul and Jill Buttery

In the words of Paul Buttery…

We entered the wine business in 1966 when we bought a school tuck shop with a wine license in the western suburbs of Adelaide. Our claim to fame in those days was making sandwiches for kids and selling port and sherry to the local imbibers. After that we operated a retail liquor store until we purchased our first vineyard in McLaren Vale on Tatachilla Road in 1980.

Over the next 15 years we expanded our holdings to what we have today. With the addition of our children and their spouses into the business we somehow got talked into releasing our own label in 1998. They have collectively built the business to where we are today and refer to me now as ‘Director of Golf’, although I keep a watchful eye on the purse strings in the hope that one day I might see a dividend!
